This is one of the beautiful lodges that are found in Buhoma sector of the famous Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. It is regarded as the luxury accommodation option, offering the standard services that match the visitors’ expectations. The lodge is strategically located to offer visitors wonderful views of the park and the Virunga volcanoes. This lodge is good for visitors who are interested in trekking the Buhoma gorillas from a far distance.
The accommodation comes in the form of the grass-thatched cottages with clean toilets and the bath rooms near the forested areas. The bandas present at the lodge are made of wood, have glass fronts and thatched roofs, and are designed to replicate the native African architectural style.
Each banda is named after a certain gorilla in Buhoma, and each has poster mattresses, magnificent furniture made of local wood, a flush toilet, and en-suite shower facilities where you may have a hot or cold shower to rejuvenate your body after a long day of adventure in the National Park. Every banda has a furnished balcony where you can sit and enjoy the early morning mist over the forest, and in the evening, after you’ve returned from your gorilla trek, you can still relax on the verandah while sipping a soft refreshing drink and thinking about the wonderful adventure you’ve had while in the forest.
The Bwindi Lodge offers spectacular views of the dense forest and is an excellent location for spotting monkeys and birds hidden among the trees. In addition, the lounge and library were reinvented, and the regular bandas were refurbished and upgraded. The award-winning Bwindi Bar is the most fashionable and colorful bar in the area, located on the village’s main street.
The lodge itself includes a main living area with a central fireplace that will provide tremendous warmth as you congregate and sit in a group to share the incredible experiences you will have had while in Bwindi’s ancient impenetrable forest. This lodge also features a lovely parlor with magnificent African artefacts and a dining area where you will be served delectable meals, making you feel right at home.
The lodge has a lovely courtyard with comfy seating where you can relax and take in the gorgeous view of the dense forest while spotting numerous colorful bird species on the tree branches and watching them fly up in the air while singing pleasant tunes. You’ll also be able to see some of the local fauna, like monkeys. In general, the lodge area is just covered in enigmatic moss.
In addition, guests can partake in informal tapas-style dinners inspired by Ugandan cuisine. Bwindi’s version of Harry’s Bar! Guests can build their own ‘rolex’ wrap as well as the delectable Gorillini Cocktail, which is a must-have following a gorilla tracking trip in Bwindi! Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust established the bar to provide hospitality training to impoverished local youth.
Activities organized by the lodge
Endangered mountain gorilla tracking in the lush African woodlands is a magical experience. Only eight visitors are permitted per gorilla group per day, and visitors are urged to keep a distance of seven meters (approximately 22 ft) from the gorillas to avoid the transmission of human diseases. Tracking typically takes 3 to 8 hours and involves some agility and fitness. However, all fitness levels can be accommodated, and no one should be discouraged from missing out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Both Uganda and Rwanda have some of the world’s best bird watching, with a wide variety of bird species. Uganda has around 1,000 bird species, with 150 of them being unique to the country. Rwanda is home to approximately 700 bird species and has the second highest number of Albertine endemics in the region.
