Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered on the east by Kenya, on the north by Sudan, on the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the southwest by Rwanda, and on the south by Tanzania. Uganda is a name after the Buganda kingdom which surrounds a large portion of the south of the country. Luganda is the main language spoken throughout the country.
Uganda was named the “Pearl Of Africa” by Winston Churchill who was an explore travelling the world. He visited the country in 1907 and named it because of its beauty, abundant wildlife and diversity.
Uganda was ruled by the British beginning in the late 1800s and it gained independence on 9th Oct 1962. Before independence, Uganda was ruled from London, with British governors appointed by the Queen’s government. But after 1962, it saw self-government based in Kampala and by run Ugandans.
Uganda’s climate is largely tropical with two rainy seasons per year, March to May and September to December. The northern region, which forms one quarter of the country lies outside the tropical belt, and hence experiences only one rainy season, March to October.
