Another national park in Uganda where gorilla trekking is being conducted is Mgahinga gorilla National Park. The park is located in western Uganda, particularly in the Kisoro District with the stunning vegetation and interesting species that are attractive to the tourists who have visited the park

There is only one gorilla family in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, called the Nyakagezi Gorilla Family, but the park is also known as the exciting destination for golden monkey tracking in the whole of Uganda. The Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is very interesting and attractive because of its history of the endangered mountain gorillas.

Several activities are conducted within the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and these include the famous gorilla trekking activities, the cultural encounters by following Batwa cultural trail, the bird watching safaris in Uganda, and the golden monkey trekking activities, which are carried out within and done from the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

All the visitors, whether from Uganda or all over the world, are free to come and visit Mgahinga national park for all these activities, providing they have all the necessary credentials and the right permission and documentation allowing them to access the National park.

The most popular activity in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the gorilla trekking safari, which is enjoyed with fun. This activity will enable you to meet eye-to-eye with the endangered mountain gorillas for the whole hour. However, several visitors have continued to ask when the best time was to go to the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and enjoy the gorillas.

It is important to note that Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is visited all year round, meaning that any time that you feel you can make plans, it is ideal for you to go and visit this wonderful national park.

Nonetheless, Mgahinga National park is open all year since both the dry and wet seasons are ideal for many activities in the park, including gorilla trekking. Because different visitors identify perfect time with different reasons/factors, what appears to be the right moment for one person may not be the same for another person?

The dry season, which runs from late May to early October and December to February, is the best time to see gorillas because the paths are drier. However, don’t be surprised if it starts raining during the day because Mgahinga National Park is situated in a high altitude region and is surrounded by a tropical rainforest that receives rain all year.

The drier seasons are also peak seasons in the gorilla tourism business, with considerable demand for gorilla permits; as a result, permits must be reserved ahead of time (something like a half year preceding the following dates).

Despite the fact that the dry season is ideal for gorilla trekking, it does not provide clear natural life and bird spotting due to the reduced visibility and much of the fresh air.

It is not good to travel to Mgahinga during the rainy conditions because The Park is frequently shrouded in murk/fog, the air is persistently damp, and hailstorms occur on a regular basis.

However, the wetter months are unquestionably the stars of gorilla trekking, as these months truly reward visitors with better views (when the rain stops and the fog/mist lifts) than the dry months, and the foliage is incredibly green during the rainy season. The wettest months in Uganda are April, May, and November. These are also low seasons for Uganda’s gorilla population.

As a result, the travel industry has proposed limited gorilla permits to the visitors or tourists, in which non-foreign visitors pay $700, saving $800 as compared to Rwanda,  where the permit standards at USD1500.this implies that the visitors must book  the gorilla safari early in advance

Therefore, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park can be visited throughout the year but it is good that you visit it during the dry season where you will enjoy its wonderful experience to the maximum.
